World's smallest ready-to-use Iridium satellite
transceiver launched by Alpha Micro Components
The Roger ITAS module enables equipment makers to
cost-effectively add satellite connectivity to their designs
quickly and with ease
Basingstoke, UK - 14 May 2017 - Alpha Micro Components (AMC)
today announces the launch of the world's smallest ready-to-use
Iridium Transceiver Antenna System (ITAS) transceiver. The AMC
Roger ITAS is competitively priced and can add satellite
connectivity to new and existing designs in a matter of days.
Aimed at markets where remote asset monitoring is essential but
challenging, the Roger ITAS enables equipment-makers to use
satellite communications to replace or complement other wireless
technologies. It can also enable remote connectivity where this
isn't currently possible or feasible.
Typical uses could include oil and gas, mining, maritime,
supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), fleet monitoring
and other telematics applications, especially when transporting
high value items across large expanse with limited cellular
coverage.
No regulatory re-approval required
Designed for optimal ease-of-use, the Roger ITAS typically
requires no changes to an existing device design; only minor
modifications to the host device's firmware are needed. And because
the Roger ITAS doesn't alter the physical hardware design of the
host device, there's no need to go through regulatory
re-approval.
World's smallest
As well as being easy to use, the Roger ITAS is the world's
smallest ITAS transceiver. Its compact footprint of 96.8 mm x 71.8
mm x 20 mm (31 mm in total to the base of the thread) is made
possible by the fact it's the first off-the-shelf ITAS transceiver
to incorporate Iridium's latest 9603 satellite modem.
Christos Papakyriacou, Managing Director at Alpha Micro
Components, said: "When you're operating or monitoring assets
in remote locations, cellular and other wireless technologies don't
always give the comprehensive coverage you need. The AMC Roger ITAS
is an easy way to add connectivity for those times in locations
where there's no alternative."
"This will give operators a much better understanding of their
assets, and therefore enables better strategic and operational
decisions. The Roger ITAS enables equipment-makers to rapidly
incorporate satellite connectivity using an ultra-compact unit that
can immediately enhance their solution without having to redesign
their hardware."
The AMC Roger ITAS is designed for use in challenging
environments and is able to operate at 75% relative humidity (RH)
and between temperatures of -40°C and +85°C.
